💙 This cause is deeply personal to me. My son, his friends, and my nephews are on the spectrum, and being part of the autism community has been one of the greatest blessings of my life — one that has shaped how I see the world and made me want to do more.
That's why I joined the Board of the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). What drew me to OAR is its focus on research that delivers practical, real-world impact for people on the spectrum. Rather than funding studies on the causes of autism, OAR prioritizes applied research that improves everyday life and informs tools and guidance that families, educators, employers, and autistic individuals can actually use — with quality of life at the center. OAR's work spans a wide range of issues, from education and communication to employment and adult and community needs, while recognizing that individuals experience autism differently and require different supports.
Autistic individuals have made outsized, game-changing contributions across science, technology, engineering, the arts, and beyond. By focusing on empowerment rather than treating autism as a problem to be solved, OAR's work helps remove barriers, deepen understanding, and create opportunities that benefit individuals, families, and society as a whole.
My goal for this race is $3,000. Every contribution — large or small — helps fund research that translates into meaningful, real-world outcomes for people on the spectrum and the families who love them.
