Hi friends and family! Welcome to my Fundraising Page!
As many of you know, it has been a dream of mine to run in the NYC Marathon. After 2 failed attempts to get into the marathon through the lottery, I have decided to run for charity. Being a teacher, I felt like the Organization for Autism Research was a perfect choice to support!
Going through my Master's Program last year, I learned a great deal about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These children are absolutely amazing, with unique gifts and talents. That being said, there is a real need for general education teachers, as well as special needs educators, to have training in evidence-based educational interventions for students with autism (Fennell & Dillenburger, 2018). Now more than ever, as the number of students with special needs increases, it is imperative that teachers be well-trained in best practices for teaching today’s diverse classroom populations.
I would be incredibly grateful if you would join me to support the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) by making a contribution to my fundraiser and by sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance the Organization for Autism Research's great cause AND will help me accomplish my dream of running in the 2022 NYC Marathon!
WHY RUN FOR AUTISM? 1 in 44 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.
Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:
$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers. $25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders. $100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school. $150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation. $1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism. $3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college. $40,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
