Well… It has been a few years since I have stared down 26.2, so I decided it was time to get my running shoes back on and raise some $$ for a wonderful cause! I have joined OAR's Run For Autism Team, and will be running the 2022 Chicago Marathon on 10/9/22! #IRUN4T

This year, running for autism means so much more to me than raising awareness for the greater good. This year it is much more personal. Our family has had many unexpected challenges to conquer in the past few years. Loving someone with non-verbal autism has helped me to see this "new" life through a different lens. Tristan has shown me how to conquer the seemingly impossible with perseverance. He reminds me daily to let go of pain to allow for the good. He frequently redirects me when I get lost and points me back to the light. Training for a marathon takes mental toughness, and this kid (with the gifts of his autism) has been the best trainer a person could ask for. T turned 16 in June and this fundraiser is a great way to celebrate my incredibly smart, insightful, empathetic, tenacious and gifted young man! #IRUN4T

I have chosen OAR because of their dedication to individuals with autism, their families and their communities. Please help me support OAR by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Organization for Autism Research's great cause!

WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$40,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
