I run for Piper.

When our daughter Piper was 18 months old, something seemed different. It was so subtle you couldn’t even describe it. She was sweet, affectionate and so very very funny. But she talked very different than her peers. She didn’t respond to her name, and she wanted nothing more than to escape to a corner with some books, not even noticing the fun environment of play around her.

I cried when we heard the word “autism”. It was so many things in my mind that my daughter was not. A couple years later, I look at Piper with so much pride. What she has overcome by the age of 4 (and showing no signs of slowing). The amazing progress she’s made and the hard hard work she puts in each and every day. These resources are a result of money, research, patience and passion.

Help me help our children get what they need to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives full of love and understanding and most of all...support. I ask as a parent: help give what we all wish for our kiddos! Thank you!


WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 68 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.


Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$30,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
