As many of you know, my son Elijah is on the spectrum with Autism/ADHD.
He tries to live his best life every second of the day which means that many neurotypical tasks for a growing 7 year old boy becomes difficult for him. Waiting, sitting, listening, keeping good boundaries are all constant struggles for him. Sports like basketball, baseball, soccer that require timing, patience and a team effort become a monumental effort.
We have found great local nonprofit resources that have supported our efforts to keeping Elijah healthy, safe and active. Nonprofits like the ones we leverage are often community funded - deriving most of their resources from donations as such.
With all that being said, I am super excited to be running for OARS - a research organization for autism research. The ambiguity around autism/ADHD means there is still a lot we don't know: where does it come from? Why? How? Can it be cured? Should it be? While some of these questions can never be answered, I believe that every bit of research that leads to clearer parenting/education/self-help means an easier path to navigate for kids like Elijah.
Elijah - this race is for you buddy. The hundreds of miles I'll run to train for this marathon and the 26.2 miles I'll run on November 1st are all dedicated to you.
If you'd like to donate and be part of this cause, along with your donation of ANY amount, PLEASE SEND ME A FEW SONGS. I am not a professional athlete; I will literally be out there for hours.
