Why I’m Running for Autism

When I was given the opportunity to run the Disney Marathon, I knew I wanted it to be about something bigger than crossing a finish line. I chose to run in support of autism because of the incredible children I have the privilege of coaching.

As a gymnastics coach, I’ve watched athletes on the autism spectrum show up with determination, resilience, and courage. I’ve celebrated their victories both the ones everyone sees and the quiet ones that often go unnoticed. I’ve also seen the extra challenges many families face as they work to ensure their children have opportunities to grow, learn, and belong.

These athletes have taught me that progress isn’t measured by how quickly someone reaches a goal, but by the courage to keep showing up. Their perseverance has inspired me in ways they may never fully realize.

Running 26.2 miles will be challenging, but it doesn’t compare to the daily obstacles many individuals with autism and their families navigate. That’s why I’m dedicating every mile to them.

If you’re able, I’d be honored if you would support my journey by making a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps fund programs, resources, research, and support that make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with autism and the families who love them.

Thank you for helping me turn every mile into something that matters.

Please help me support Organization for Autism Research by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Organization for Autism Research's great cause!

WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 31 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$50,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
