Supporting Autism Research in Honor of Caleb ❤️

I’m proud to be fundraising for autism research in honor of my son Caleb, an incredible young man who is living with autism. Caleb is bright, funny, capable, and uniquely himself. He is a talented musician who loves jazz. Like so many individuals on the autism spectrum, he has strengths and talents that deserve to be celebrated — but he also faces challenges that many people may never see.

One of the greatest challenges is not autism itself, but the lack of understanding surrounding it. Individuals with autism can face ridicule, exclusion, bullying, and judgment simply because they communicate, behave, or experience the world differently. What may look unusual to someone else can be a very real expression of how a person with autism experiences the world.

That is why acceptance and education matter so much. We need to move beyond simply being aware of autism to truly understanding and accepting autistic individuals for who they are. Education can replace judgment with compassion, bullying with inclusion, and misunderstanding with empathy.

I’m supporting autism research because I believe we can create a future where individuals like Caleb are given every opportunity to thrive — where differences are understood rather than mocked, where support is available when it is needed, and where every person is valued for the unique individual they are.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$50,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
