Alex Walters

Hello and welcome!

I will be participating in the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon on November 7 and will be fundraising for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) in the process. I invite you to support me and my cause this year.

Did you know that 1 out of every 54 children in the United States is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a rate that has more than doubled over the past two decades?

With several members of my family affected by ASD, I feel a personal connection to the disorder. I also believe organizations that encourage early diagnoses, provide strong educational materials, and help further the personal and professional goals of persons affected by with ASD should be cherished. OAR is one of those organizations to me.

If you are able to, I invite you to contribute to my fundraising efforts to help me achieve my goals of raising $3,500 prior to race day.

I will be posting fundraising and training updates to my fundraising page, so I invite you to follow along. I also enjoy sharing my updates in person so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

From Organization for Autism Research:

1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$40,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
