This is Ian. He just turned 13 and as you can see, is a pretty happy guy :) Except when he's not. When he's unhappy, he's really, really unhappy and he loses some control. That's one of the many different traits people on the Autism spectrum may have. Highs that are lower than most people's, and lows that are, too.

Ian is exceptionally bright but struggles with social interactions and situations. Like many on The Spectrum, he gets obsessions. His latest is basketball: he's our new resident statistician...and NBA hopeful :)

I'm not a runner, but am dedicating myself to train up for, and run the 2021 NYC Marathon. It's a lot to do between now and November, but the cause is right. If we can help others who struggle with autism - many who have it a LOT harder than we do, their support systems, and research into the cause(s) and therapies, it's definitely worth the pain. Please help me support this important cause with whatever you can spare!

Thank you,
Bryan

WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$40,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
