Dylan Schuster tragically passed away on January 12, 2020 at the age of 14. If you knew Dylan, you’d know how much he touched the lives of everyone around him. He was a drummer, chef, black belt tae-kwon-do, comedian, cannon-baller, loved camp and simply loved life.
After the initial shock of this loss, some friends and I wondered how can we honor this special young man that had been taken from us too soon?
We decided to take on the 2020 TCS NYC Marathon in November 2020 to honor Dylan's memory. At the request of Dylan's parents, we decided to team up with the Organization for Autism Research which helps fund research and provides resources to help people with autism and their families. This was the start of our fundraising and training... ...But, Covid had other plans- the 2020 live, in-person race was cancelled.
I was disappointed, but not deterred. I deferred my entry to 2021 and so here I am, training and fundraising again for my second marathon.
In my mind, running and fundraising go hand-in-hand. I began running to raise money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes in honor of my daughter, who struggles and conquers each day with T1D. Now, I've chosen to run to honor the memory of Dylan, who is gone but not forgotten and in our hearts forever.
Please help my efforts by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Organization for Autism Research's great cause!
