Hello!

Please help support me and Emma Crooks in running our second marathon! This October, we will be running 26.2 miles in the DC Marine Corps Marathon to support the Organization for Autism Research.

Back in January, I began volunteering as a Hire Autism Navigator for “Hire Autism”, a free program led and run by the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). With an active jobs board and through offering resources for employers and job seekers alike, Hire Autism aims to expand opportunities for autistic individuals and serve as a continuing resource for them in their workplaces.

1 in 44 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) vs 1 in 150 only 20 years ago. What can we do next?

Organization for Autism Research's mission is to apply research to the challenges of autism. OAR strives to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers. The mission of “applying” research to answer questions of daily concern to those living with autism defines our goals and program objectives and shapes our budget.

OAR's practical application and uses of the funds raised:
- OAR has raised over $4 million in autism research in the form of pilot studies and graduate research grants.
- Awarded over $1 million in scholarships to 356 persons with autism attending college or vocational-technical schools after high school.
- Launched "Hire Autism", an adult employment initiative that has helped 56 individuals with autism find jobs in the test program in Northern Virginia.
