Hello friends!! My name is Ava; welcome to my page:)
As a “Run for Autism” team member, and registered ‘Boston Marathon’ qualifier, I’ll be using this webpage, and my many training miles, to help fuel and donate each penny to the Organization for Autism Research.
Partnering with the O.A.R/‘Run for Autism’ team has been the perfect means for me in actively promoting positive change—especially with April being Autism awareness month and the Boston race being on 4/15:)
OAR’s MISSION~ is “to strive to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of autistic people, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers”.
A little goes a long way! Please help me support by making a contribution and/or sharing this page with your family and friends :)
MY ‘MISSION STATEMENT’
As some may know, I also work as a school based registered behavior technician for a neurodivergent class of kiddos kindergarten through second grade. It’s genuinely been such a wholesomely rewarding experience to witness these pure little humans learn to make friends on the playground and write their ABC’s for the first time.
With this being said, I humbly pray to lead by example and not ignorance—as these children are the future and marginalization simply can not be ignored.
Causes of marginalization in autistic communities include disproportionately high health care restrictions, ineffective service deliveries, the lack of ability and resources to properly educate and care for people who are transitioning to adulthood, unemployment and homelessness rates with coupled substance usage etc; this also encompasses a lack of understanding of what autism is, a lack of diagnosis or late or incorrect diagnosis, and, ultimately, the undervaluation of the need for comprehensive, long term care for those with (neurodivergent) mental health needs as a whole.
I am deeply inspired to promote autism awareness inside and outside of schools because I don’t want (especially) our innocent classroom kiddos and any/all children for that matter to literally grow into these statistics.
~WHY 6435 AS THE GOAL? Let’s add $10 +25 + $50 + $100 + $250 + $1000 + $5000; ($10) + provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
