Hi Everyone!

I finally got my approval to run in the Chicago Marathon! Having covid in January and then inuring my Achilles about 3/4 months ago put my marathon on hold, its been diagnosis as Insertional Achilles Tendinitis which has been tough to train with. As i do with everything, I definitely wanted to give my all to running this marathon as it is hopefully is my first of many. I will be 10 years cancer free in 2023 and have decided to dedicate each marathon to a special cause.

Chicago being my first marathon, i really thought hard about which amazing charity i would choose. I have picked Run For Autism as my first charity because even though it doesn’t currently effect anyone is my family I have seen close friends whose children have strived in education and life with the love and support of their family and friends. I have noticed how the correct treatment for Autism is important, the proper care can reduce individuals’ difficulties while helping them learn new skills and make the most of their strengths. They are important people in society and we should do everything in our power to help them develop correctly like other children and people in our society. This organization helps by providing small tool such as a curriculum in a box for general education teachers and as much as sending a person with Autism to college.

Autism is not a disability, it's a different ability.

WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
