Please help me support the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) by making a contribution to my fundraiser. I will be training for one of my bucket list races, “Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon” on June 5th as a member of the Tri for Autism team. This tough race consists of jumping off a ferry next to The Rock into 55-degree water and swimming 1.5 miles to land, riding 18 hilly miles, and then running 8 tough miles with something called the “Sand Ladder” in the middle of it.

Over the last few years, I have introduced and coached many people to the great sport of triathlon but my biggest challenge and most inspirational athlete was working with Johnny, an 11-year-old with autism. We got into a good groove and he really took to exercising, always wanting to do one more interval! This past August we did a tri relay together along with his brother. He did the run and finished strong with his arms in the air as he was trained. It was such a memorable experience for all and I will be fundraising in his honor and dedicating these miles to life changing autism research.

WHY TRI FOR AUTISM?
1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the TRI FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the TRI FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$30,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
