Autism has shaped my life in the most meaningful ways. My little brother is on the spectrum, and several of my close friends and family members are as well. I have watched them grow, learn, and shine in ways that many people never get to see. They are not “different” in a way that needs fixing. They are beautifully unique, talented, funny, intelligent, and full of heart, and the world is better because of who they are.
I work in the mental health field supporting individuals on the spectrum every day from young children to older adults. I have seen how life changing the right resources, education, and support can be. These tools help people gain confidence, safety, independence, and the chance to be truly understood. This is why my brother and I are running together for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). We are running for those who deserve more understanding, more acceptance, and more opportunity.
