I am so thankful to be running the New York City Marathon on November 3 to support OAR - the Organization for Autism Research! Having the opportunity to add more meaning to my miles and run for this amazing charity is such a blessing.
1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. OAR provides resources for families, educators, and autistic people, making research more accessible and directly impactful.
Here are some tangible ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team: $10 provides a Curriculum in a Box for general education teachers. $25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families & first responders. $100 provides a peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school. $150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group. $1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism. $3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
Running NYC has always been high on my bucket list, but especially now as it will be my final of the 6 World Marathon Majors & my 24th marathon. Thank you to all of my family and friends who have encouraged & supported me on this journey that's included Boston, Chicago, London, Berlin & Tokyo. More than anything I wish my Dad was here to experience this dream with me. He would have loved it, and I'm always running in honor of him. * Drawing by Jack Colvin age 8 for the Chicago Marathon.*
