Dear friends and family - In honor of my nephew Christian, I will be running in this year's NYC Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, March 17 with the Run For Autism team - Organization for Autism Research’s fundraising initiative.

As some of you may know my nephew Christian was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. Today he is a courageous young man who is my biggest inspiration. Although he is non-verbal and needs assistance from his parents and loved ones, he is a loving soul that never gives up on improving himself. Every day he is overcoming obstacles that stand in his way with vim and vigor...and of course, love. He is a true profile in courage. My champion!

I have seen my nephew grow up and have witnessed the challenges it has presented to the family. While it has been challenging, and at times difficult, it definitely has been a rewarding experience. He has taught me all about patience, kindness and perseverance. I can say that I am a better person for having him in my life. I turn to him as a source of strength every time I run and it is only fitting that I run in support of this cause that is near and dear to me.

Please help me support Organization for Autism Research by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Organization for Autism Research's great cause!

WHY RUN FOR AUTISM?
1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today.

Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the RUN FOR AUTISM team:

$10 provides a Curriculum in a Box professional development set to general education teachers.
$25 provides 15 copies of A Guide to Safety to families and first responders.
$100 provides the Kit for Kids peer education resource to an entire elementary or middle school.
$150 provides 100 copies of a Life Journey through Autism guidebook sent to a community support group or military installation.
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$50,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
